Message from our President
Why ASID? The importance of a professional society is measured not only by the value to its members, but as a reference for the public’s information and use. The nature of a society is to establish a basic standard of care, a way to measure its member’s professionalism. The AIA (American Institute of Architects) isn’t an appellate that is applied after graduation. It is a professional society that reviews and confirms the candidate’s qualifications in part so that you don’t have to.
ASID has been the standard for the business of Interior Design for over 30 years. To maintain the Professional status you must have completed a level of education, work experience, and rigid testing. This tells you that this professional has met this standard and has earned the right to have ASID after their name.
If you are considering working with a professional interior designer, you want to know that the person you choose to work with has the experience and commitment to see you thru all phases of your project. Besides the talent that you have brought to the job, you can expect to establish realistic budgets, accurate drawings, amazing products and strong fiscal project management. Find the designer whose quality and experience match your projects needs.
And in the event an issue does arise that needs a third party, the American Society of Interior Design is there to review and if necessary take measures to insure that the Professional in question has been held to the highest standard possible.
Susan Sawasy, ASID, CID
CA Pasadena Chapter President – 2010-2011
